17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317 First Look |
Are you interested in an entry-level Acer Chromebook at an affordable price? Well, look no further because Acer is just about to reveal its 17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317.
The Acer Chromebook 317 Is Aimed At The Lower End Of The Market
17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317 First Look: The 17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317 was recently released by Acer and I dare say it's ideal for working. An entry-level Chromebook at less than $400.00 the 17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317 has a quad-core Celeron CPU.
The new Acer Chromebook 317 allows customers the space to work and get more work done. The huge 17.3 inch display has an anti-light layer and is enclosed by narrow bevels, providing brilliant visuals. In addition, the large monitor and optional webcam allow group video chats and conference calls making anyone who works or learns from home more productive.
17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317 Memory Options And Specifications
What I love about the 17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317 is the amount of memory or RAM you get. Typically, with an entry-level Chromebook, you only get 4 GB of memory in which in my opinion is barely enough to open a few browser tabs before things slow down a bit.
Specifications:
- Battery life is about 10 hours
- WiFi 6
- Bluetooth 5.0
- 64 GB storage
- 8 GB RAM
- Intel Celeron N500 CPU
- Intel UDH Graphics
- Weight 5.18 pounds
- Display 17.3 inch, 1920x1080 non-touch
- 16:9 aspect ratio
But with the 17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317, you get 8 GB. Much better. However, my personal preference is 12 GB at minimum. But for an entry level and less than $400 you really can't go wrong.
The Acer Chromebook 317 provides students, companies and domestic customers with the newest Intel Celeron CPUs and Intel Wi-Fi 6. The Chromebook may also deliver up to 10 hours of battery life and have two fully functioning USB 3.2 Type-C ports, one on either side of the Chromebook and other ports to help connect devices.
Pros
- Nice 17.3 easy to see the display
- 8 GB of RAM
- Back-lit keyboard
- Acceptable price of less than $400.00
- Good battery life of 10 hours with a 17-inch screen
Cons
- It's big at 17 inches
- I would prefer at least 12 GB of RAM, not 8 GB
- I would prefer at least an Intel Core i5 processor
-
Non-touch display
17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317 Display Size
Another significant feature of the 17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317 is the display size. Yes, you get a whopping 17 inches in which makes other Chromebooks like a 10 version, look tiny. When comparing a 10 inch to 17-inch you will choose the 17-inch model every time for working. In my opinion, this is a tremendous advantage because everything is bigger and easier to see.
Working on the 17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317 is a joy. The downside is that it will not be a portable as a smaller Chromebook. a few years back I carried around a 17-inch laptop and it was hard to find backpacks large enough. It was also heavy. My recommendation is if you are purchasing a Chromebook primarily for its portability then I would purchase a 10 inch or maybe something like the Acer Chromebook Spin 13.
The Keyboard On The 17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317
Most all keyboards on Chromebooks are really bad as compared to a nice Mechanical Keyboard. But the 17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317 keyboard is back-lit in which I think is a significant feature. When typing in low light this feature makes typing much easier.
The Acer Chromebook 317 is complimented by an integrated numeric keyboard, high quality keyboard (available with illumination) and big trackpad that makes 10-key input a breeze. The keyboard is accompanied by two full-size upward facing speakers that add life to streamed content and great sound quality while on Zoom calls.
What I Do Not Like About The 17.3-inch Acer Chromebook 317
Folks, I really would like to see even more memory. 8 Gb is good but in my opinion, you need a minimum of 12 GB. I prefer 16 GB. The Celeron Quad-core CPU will work but my preference is an Intel Core i5. Even a lower-end Core i5 is better than a Celeron. But for the price, the Celeron is adequate. So summarizing, this is an entry-level Chromebook and will be great for folks wanting to check emails, watch YouTube, open Facebook and do some light work.
If you never used a Chromebook before then this would be a good one to learn on. You can set it up at home on a table or desk and move it around occasionally when needed. I would not recommend this model for someone who is looking for a Chromebook that is portable. It's going to be too big to carry.
