Web Navigation Tips

October 28, 2010

Web Navigation should be intuitive. This means having Web Navigation that makes it easy for visitors to navigate from one web page to another web page effortlessly.

Web Navigation should have a natural flow and should be consistent between all web pages on the web site.

Use of Flash video and Javascript on your web site

It is best not to get to fancy with web navigation by using excessive Flash videos and or Javascript. This can significantly slow down web navigation. Plus many visitors who are on limited bandwidth providers or choose to use dial-up or DSL-lite services may never see your web site because they will probably choose not to wait for your web site to load.

Flash and Javascript are very powerful and can do wonderful things and are great tools for web site building but depending on how big the Flash or Javascript content is and the speed of the connection it may take a long or longer time to load.

If you do choose to use to have Flash or Javascript for your web site navigation it is best to also provide or ask for text based navigation in addition to the Flash and Javascript navigation. This way your web site has the best of both worlds.
